Latin American steel industry got together in its annual conference in Mexico. Ternium was present again in order to strengthen the relationship with its value chain.

Alacero 58, the Annual Conference of the Latin American Steel Association, was held in Cancun, Mexico from 6th to 8th November. Like each year, Ternium took part in ExpoAlacero exhibition through Techint Group’s stand, besides the top executives’ participation in the panels of the event.

The conference opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Alacero’s President, Jefferson de Paula; Guillermo Vogel, Tenaris’ Vicepresident of Finance and Canacero’s Head; Máximo Vedoya, Managing Director of Ternium Mexico and Martín Berardi, Managing Director of Ternium Argentina, among other leaders of the industry.

During the second day of talks, César Jiménez, Managing Sales Director, Ternium Mexico, took part in the panel named “Mexican market: the challenge of achieving the recovery and sustainability of the Mexican industry,” and confirmed Ternium’s commitment with the Mexican development.

Berardi illustrated his ideas in the panel “CEOs’ perspective, over the Latin American steel market, the new setting.” In his speech, he stated that Argentina “faces major challenges and reforms. There is a renewed optimism and the investment projects in capacity are starting to be viable after a long period of time.” He also highlighted the importance of working together among the leaders of the value chain, before a new opening overview in the markets.

Regional industry leaders agreed that the prospects for the steel market in Latin America have improved as compared to last year, but they were still cautious about unfair competition, mainly from Asia, caused by overcapacity existing in the sector worldwide.

Ternium’s stand worked as a meeting point between the company’s representatives and the customers and suppliers of the value chain, in order to share the news on the products and services the company counts on. Besides, those who approached could see Ternium’s Industrial Center of Pesquería, Mexico, through a 360-degree video which presented the main features of the plant.

Alacero announced that 2018 edition will be held in Cartagena de las Indias, Colombia. Like each year, Ternium will be present again.
